When can babies eat English muffin?

English muffin can be offered from about 6 months, once baby is ready for solids. It is usually made with wheat. It may hold other common allergens. So start with care.

The English muffin comes from the United Kingdom. It is cooked on a griddle, not baked. It is split before toasting. This leaves the inside soft and full of nooks. People eat it with egg, butter, or jam.

Nutrition

English muffin gives plenty of carbohydrate. It also has some fiber and protein. Values vary a lot by type. A few are whole grain. Others are sourdough or made with sprouted grains. Some are fortified with folate and iron.

How do you prepare English muffin for babies?

Toast the muffin until the edges turn light golden. That makes it firmer and less gummy when baby begins to chew. At 6 months, give a half or thin strips. After 9 months, give bite-sized pieces. At 12 months you can serve it toasted or untoasted.

A light smear helps. Try butter, mashed avocado, yogurt, hummus, cream cheese or mashed beans. A high chair is not a must. Baby can also eat safely held close on your knee or seated beside you down low. No utensils are needed. Put the food right on the tray.

Preparation by age

The same food is served differently at each age. What matters is how your baby sits, grasps and chews, more than the calendar.
