When can babies eat cucumber?
Cucumber can start when your baby is ready for solids, around 6 months.
Cucumber originated in Southeast Asia. These days it is grown in any sunny, warm place. Types are numerous: the small, thin-skinned Persian, the very long Japanese, the round lemon, the seedless English, and the common Kirby, to name some.
Nutrition
Cucumber provides a bit of fiber, along with vitamin C and vitamin K. They contribute to fluid balance, digestion, healing of wounds, and clotting of blood. Small quantities of iron, zinc, calcium, and folate come with it. It holds antioxidants as well.
How do you prepare cucumber for babies?
Skin and seeds
Leaving the skin on makes the food less slippery and easier to hold. It also makes it harder to bite a big piece off. After 9 months, peeling may help your baby eat more, but it is not needed. Seeds are not a choking risk. They are spread through the flesh.
Slice thickness
Slices should be thick enough not to flop when held, but do not cut thick rounds. Thin slices get eaten little, but they are a nice way to share the flavors of the family table. If your baby puts a whole slice in the mouth, wait a moment and coach the chewing if needed.
Pickles
Pickled cucumber can be offered when your baby is ready for solids, around 6 months. Cut it for your child's age. Quick pickles can be firmer and raise the risk. Long-fermented or commercial pickles are softer.
The source gives no numeric salt level for pickles. Choose low-salt products for babies and ask a health professional.
Preparation by age
The same food is served differently at each age. What matters is how your baby sits, grasps and chews, more than the calendar.

Cut: Quartered
Wash the cucumber well and cut it lengthwise into quarters, keeping the seeded center and the skin. A thick palm-long piece is gnawed by baby's gums. It is hard, so biting pieces off is difficult. Stay beside your baby and watch every piece.
6 months · How to grate and mix inmash
Cut: Grated
Grate the cucumber and squeeze out a little of the juice. Stir it into a spoonable food such as yogurt. Your baby can eat it by hand or with a spoon.
9 months

Peel the skin and serve long thin strips or very thin slices. A thick round slice can roll into the throat, so cut slices thin and flat. You can stir grated cucumber into yogurt for a cacık-like dish.
12 months
12 months · How to preparecube
Serve cucumber as thin half-moon slices or small cubes. Thick round slices and whole mini cucumbers are not suitable until age 4.
12 months · How to prepare long thin slicesstrip
Cut: Finger strip
Serve cucumber in long, thin rectangular slices, with or without skin. Avoid bite-sized cubes and sticks that can break apart. After 18 months, a child with biting experience can have a long spear or a mini cucumber trimmed at both pointed ends. Trimming those ends lowers the choking risk.
Is cucumber a choking hazard for babies?
Choking risk: medium
Raw cucumber is firm, slippery and hard to chew. Tapered cuts raise the risk. At 6 months, give a big piece with skin or grated cucumber, later thin slices. Do not serve cubes or sticks.
Cucumber is a choking risk. Raw cucumber is firm and slippery, takes effort to chew, and is often cut into shapes with tapered ends. Prepare it for your child's age. Sit with your baby at meals and stay within arm's reach.
Cutting rule
At 6 months, a big piece with skin (a boat), a mini cucumber with the ends cut off, or grated. At 9 months, thin half-moon slices. At 12 months, thin slices. No bite-sized cubes or sticks that can break apart. Cut the tapered ends off spears.
Is cucumber a common allergen?
Cucumber is not a common allergen. Allergy to it is rare. People with ragweed pollen allergy who have pollen food allergy syndrome may be sensitive to cucumber. It results in a short itch or burn in the mouth. A dangerous reaction is not expected.
For the first try, offer a small amount. If there is no reaction, raise it slowly over later meals.
