When can babies eat coconut milk?
Coconut milk can go into your baby's food when your baby is ready for solids, around 6 months. Give it as a drink only after 12 months. In the first year, the main drinks are breast milk and formula.
Coconuts are the fruit of palms that thrive across tropical climates. Inside the hard shell are two nourishing foods. One is the refreshing water and the other is the creamy white flesh. Coconut milk is made by pressing that flesh and thinning it with water.
Nutrition
Coconut milk gives fat and a little fiber. It also holds B vitamins, zinc, selenium, potassium, magnesium and iron. These nutrients supply energy for growth and play. They support digestion, iron status, immunity and hormone function.
How do you prepare coconut milk for babies?
Mix before using
In canned coconut milk, the solid and liquid parts often separate. Shake the closed can or stir the opened one to bring them back together. Then add it to the food.
Pick products with no added sugar on the label. A sweetened coconut drink is not a replacement for canned coconut milk for a baby.
Preparation by age
The same food is served differently at each age. What matters is how your baby sits, grasps and chews, more than the calendar.
